Imtiaz Farookhi is Chair of LTGDC`s audit and risk committee.
He has been the Chief Executive of the NHBC since 1997. Previously, Imtiaz was Chief Executive of Leicester City Council from 1991 to 1996, where he developed the Environment City initiative and led City Challenge and other regeneration ventures. He has served on the boards of Leicestershire Training and Enterprise Council, Leicestershire Business Link, Leicestershire Education-Business Partnership and as a founder board member of East Midlands Development from 1994 to 1996.
Previously he was a member of the national LSC, Further Education Funding Council, board member of the British Urban Regeneration Association, council member of the CBI, and a member of DEMOS Advisory Council. He was appointed by the Secretary of State onto the Environment Agency from 1994 to 1997. His career began in public affairs in the electricity supply industry (CEGB), following which he held senior posts in local government as Deputy Chief Executive at the London Borough of Southwark (1989-1991), Assistant Chief Executive of the City of Wakefield (1988-1989), and Assistant Chief Executive of the London Borough of Hackney (1983-1988).
