Cllr Guy Nicholson
“Physical development without consideration of the social
capital of our communities is not practical in our present
situation. Delivering on sustainable communities also requires us
to find ways of addressing peoples diverse needs for cultural
expression”.
Guy Nicholson is an elected Councillor for the
London Borough of Hackney, first elected in 1998 and since 2002 has
held the Cabinet portfolio for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic
& Paralympic Games.
He is a member of a number of boards tasked
with the strategic planning and delivery of social, economic,
cultural and urban regeneration initiatives in London, including
the Thames Gateway London Partnership, the 2012 Five Host Borough
Leaders & Mayors Partnership, the North London Strategic
Alliance and is the current Chair of the City Fringe Partnership
investing into central London’s small and medium sized business
sectors.
He is a member of the European Social Fund
Programme Committee overseeing the European investment programme in
the capital and is a member of the London Councils Economic
Development Forum and London Councils 2012 Culture, Leisure &
Tourism Forum. He is also a council member for the Arts Council
London Regional Council and is a member of the advisory board for
Art in the Open, a new pan London public art initiative.
He is a Director for Gateway to London, the
current inward investment agency for east London and represents the
London Gateway on the board of Pro Active East London, the sub
regional partnership for Sport England. He is a Director of Tour
East, the tourism and visitor economy agency for east London and a
board member for the Shoreditch Trust, the new deal for community’s
initiative based in Shoreditch and the Hackney Empire Theatre.
