About the area
LTGDC’s ambition is to secure the regeneration of vacant and
underused former industrial land south of the A1306. At South
Dagenham there is an opportunity to establish a ‘new heart’ for the
area through residential-led mixed-use development. At Dagenham
Dock, the development of a Sustainable Industries Park aims to
transform this area into London’s premier location for green
industries and technologies.
LTGDC projects
LTGDC has agreed a joint venture with the LDA to develop its
land at Dagenham Dock and to acquire further vacant or underused
land for the development of the London Sustainable Industries Park.
As part of the regeneration strategy for the wider area, the
Corporation acquired a ten hectare site on Choats Road. This will
accommodate a range of businesses that are seeking suitable sites
within the Dagenham Dock area.
The London Sustainable Industries Park (SIP) will be a
development showcasing cutting edge sustainable technologies (such
as recycling, renewable energy generation, manufacture of
sustainable construction materials and research and development).
The development will be built using best practice sustainable
construction and management standards that address the challenges
and opportunities of climate change. To facilitate the development
further land acquisitions will be made. LTGDC is funding the
construction of a new road and services infrastructure, together
with a package of improvements to the public realm, including a new
riverside open space.
LTGDC is working with a consortium of world class business and
academic institutions to establish an international Institute for
Sustainability (IfS) at the London SIP. The IfS will stimulate
business by providing a hub for collaborative research and access
to expert knowledge in the field of sustainability. It will focus
on consumption (sustainable construction, sustainable procurement,
energy management) and waste (materials re-use and recycling). The
IfS will be multi-disciplinary, enabling high-quality collaborative
research through its university, corporate and Research and
Technology Organisation partners and will provide business
incubation and support services. The IfS provides an opportunity to
twin the Dagenham Dock project in the Thames Gateway with the
scientific and technological component of the Dongtan project in
Shanghai as a key UK-China deliverable for 2010.
