In October 2005 the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation became the strategic development control authority for its areas of responsibility in the Thames Gateway.
The Corporation has the power to determine certain strategic types of planning application eg those with over 50 residential units and those with over 2,500 sq m of commercial floor space.
It has no powers to prepare statutory planning polices and no direct powers regarding planning enforcement.
